Axe Sports Group Partners with Houston Christian University to Deliver NIL Strategy & Education for Huskie’s Men’s Basketball

Partnership Expands Axe Sports Group’s Growing Footprint in NCAA Division I Men’s

Basketball Through the Next Play Initiative

HOUSTON, Texas — Axe Sports Group announced today that it has entered into an agreement

with Houston Christian University (HCU) Athletics to serve as a third-party Name, Image &

Likeness (NIL) service provider for the university’s Men’s Basketball program.

Through its Next Play Initiative (NPI) platform, Axe Sports Group will work alongside HCU

Basketball to help develop structured NIL opportunities connecting student-athletes with brands,

businesses, and community partners — while providing operational infrastructure to the athletic

department and branding education for its athletes.

The collaboration will focus on building a sustainable NIL framework for HCU Basketball

athletes by supporting partnership development, deal structuring, and opportunity creation

aligned with the university’s compliance standards and institutional policies. Houston Christian

University has been a forward-thinking institution in the NIL space since launching its HCYou

NIL program at the onset of NCAA NIL legislation in 2021, and this partnership reflects the next

chapter of that commitment.

“Houston Christian University is a program with the brand equity, community ties, and

competitive drive to attract real NIL value for its student-athletes,” said Ismail Showell, Founder

and CEO of Axe Sports Group. “We’re excited to bring the Next Play Initiative to HCU

Basketball and help these young men build sustainable partnerships while they compete at the

Division I level.”

"HCU has laid a strong foundation through its HCYou program, and we're here to build on that,"

Showell added. "But for us, this goes beyond deal-making. We believe every student-athlete is

more than their sport. Our job is to help them understand their value, develop their personal

brand, build financial literacy, and use this moment as a launchpad after the game is over. NIL

done right is life preparation."

Under the agreement, Axe Sports Group will assist in:

• Developing partnership opportunities with local, regional, and national brands

• Structuring and executing brand agreements for HCU Men’s Basketball student-athletes

• Providing branding education to help student-athletes define and communicate their

personal identity, build a compelling public presence, and position themselves as

marketable individuals both during and beyond their collegiate careers

HCU Men’s Basketball competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Southland Conference,

representing one of the most diverse private universities in the United States, located in

Houston — the fourth-largest city in the country.

At the core of Axe Sports Group's approach is a belief that student-athletes are

multidimensional and that NIL, when done right, is about far more than the next deal. The Next

Play Initiative is built to help HCU's student-athletes understand and own their full value: as

athletes, as individuals, and as future professionals. From branding workshops and financial

literacy training to career development conversations, Axe Sports Group is committed to helping

these young men use their platform today to open doors long after their playing days are over —

whether that means entering media, entrepreneurship, or stepping into any arena they choose.
